The Human Genome Project started in 1990 as an international effort to develop a full genetic blueprint of human DNA. The genomics field has made exponential strides since researchers first sequenced the billions of chemical letters that make up our DNA in 2003. Since then, sequencing prices have dropped 100,000x to around $1,000 per genome.
