A bigger paycheck is the top reason people quit with 25 percent of those polled saying they are seeking to ditch their employer in order to work somewhere with a better salary. 16 percent of respondents said that they are generally unhappy where they currently work while 14 percent  are aiming to get a new job at an organization more aligned with their values. Read more.

The unemployment rate dropped to a 50-year low

The U.S. labor market is in great shape. The unemployment rate dropped to a 50-year low of 3.6 percent in April, wages are high and total nonfarm employment reached a historical high of 151.1 million, according to the latest estimates by the Bureau of Labor Statistics. The U.S. is not alone in enjoying a strong job market at the moment though. According to the IMF’s latest World Economic Outlook, the employment situation in most of the world’s largest economies has improved significantly over the past five years. Read more.

Where Pay Is Lowest For Cheap Clothing Production



Many of the world's best known clothing brands including H&M, Gap and PVH employ thousands of workers in Ethiopia. The report has found that although the country's leaders are always keen to show off projects such as the new Hawassa Industrial Park 225 kilometers south of Addis Adaba, the harsh reality is that Ethiopian garment workers cannot support their families. 

Monthly wages are higher but still extremely low in Bangladesh and Myanmar at $95. In Vietman and Cambodia, workers in the garment-sector are paid a minumum of $180/$182 a month while in China, pay comes to $326. Out of all of the countries in the report, Turkey had the highest monthly minimum wage for its garment-workers at $340.

Who Works The Most Hours Every Year?


Given the economic hardships brought about by the financial crisis, making ends meet has become increasingly difficult in Greece. Unsurprisingly, that has made life incredibly stressful for much of its population and Gallup found that 59 percent of Greeks are under a lot of stress. The U.S. is also firmly among the world's most stressed countries with 55 percent of the population responding that they had experienced a lot of stress the day before the research was conducted. Read more.

Gallup gauged stress levels in 143 countries around the world as part of its 2019 Global Emotions Report, finding that just over a third of people said they experienced "a lot of stress" the day before the polling. Today, we're starting off with an overview of the top-10. Long working hours can contribute hugely to stress and our second infographic shows where workers are putting in the longest shifts in a selection of OECD countries.

The Most Indebted Countries in the World



As the following chart shows, that puts Japan far ahead of Greece, Italy and Portugal, the European Union’s debt-laden problem children, and the United States, which also saw its public debt soar to unprecedented levels in recent years. While the U.S. saw its debt level rise from 65 to 105 percent between 2007 and 2017, Spain and the UK suffered the biggest increases, with debt levels in both countries more than doubling over the same period.
