WHERE tourists spend the most


France was the most-visited country in 2017 with 86.9 million international tourist arrivals, ahead of second-placed Spain's 81.8 million and 75.9 million for the United States. It had been feared that President Trump's rhetoric and actions could deter foreign tourists and according to the UNWTO, total arrivals to the U.S. declined 3.8% in 2017. Despite that decline, spending still increased 1.9% to reach $210.7 billion, a level of expenditure that's drastically higher than both France and Spain combined. Read more.
